Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about creating, styling, printing and scanning QR codes. Can’t find yours? Contact us.
Do these QR codes expire?
No. The codes are static: the content is encoded directly into the image, so they keep working forever and don’t depend on this website.
Can I add my logo?
Yes. Upload a PNG, JPG or SVG in the Logo step. Use error correction Q or H so the code still scans with part of it covered.
Which file format should I download?
Use SVG for print and design tools because it scales to any size. Use PNG for websites and documents, with a transparent background if needed.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. QR codes are generated entirely in your browser using the open-source Nayuki QR Code generator library.
What is error correction?
It lets a QR code be read even when part of it is damaged or hidden. Low recovers about 7% of the code, High about 30%, at the cost of a denser pattern.
What is a QR code?
A QR code is a square barcode that stores information such as a link, text, Wi‑Fi details or a contact card. Point a phone camera at it to open or save that information instantly.
What is the best free QR code generator?
The best free QR code generator is one that needs no sign up, never expires, lets you add your logo and colors, and gives you high-quality downloads in PNG and SVG. QR Code Station is built to offer all of that for free.
Do I need an Adobe, Canva or Google account to use this QR code generator?
No. QR Code Station is independent and not affiliated with Adobe, Canva or Google. You do not need any account or login to make or download a QR code.
Does this website store my data in my browser? How do I delete it?
Yes, a little. To remember your last settings, the site saves your content, design choices, uploaded logos and theme in your browser’s local storage. It never leaves your device. To delete it, use the “Delete my saved data” button on the Privacy policy page, or clear this site’s data in your browser settings (the Privacy policy page has step-by-step instructions for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, iPhone and Android). Private or incognito windows delete it automatically when closed.
Is the QR code generator really free?
Yes. You can create and download as many QR codes as you like with no account, no watermark and no time limit.
Do I need to sign up?
No. There is no login. Open the page, create your code and download it.
What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?
A static code stores your content directly in the pattern, so it never expires and needs no server. A dynamic code points to a redirect that can be edited later and can track scans. QR Code Station creates static codes.
Can I edit a QR code after printing it?
No. Static codes cannot be changed once printed. If the content changes, generate and print a new code.
Can I track how many people scan my code?
Not directly. To measure scans, add UTM parameters to your link and check the results in your own web analytics.
How big should I print my QR code?
At least 2 × 2 cm (about 0.8 inch) for close-range scanning. Make it larger for posters or anything scanned from a distance: roughly 1 cm of code for every 10 cm of scanning distance.
Why won’t my QR code scan?
The usual causes are low contrast between code and background, a logo that is too large, too small a margin around the code (the “quiet zone”), or too much data. Use a dark code on a light background, keep error correction at Q or H with a logo, and test with a phone before printing.
Can I make QR codes for social media, PDFs or videos?
Yes. Upload your PDF or video online, or copy your social profile link, and paste it into the URL type. The URL type also has one-tap shortcuts for popular social networks.
Can I use the QR codes for business or commercial use?
Yes. Codes you create are yours to use on products, packaging, menus, ads and more.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Both open the camera app and recognize QR codes without installing anything.
